Senegal is situated in West Africa and is bordered by Mauritania to the north and northeast, Mali to the east and southeast, Guinea and Guinea-Bissau to the south, and the Atlantic Ocean to the west. The Cape Verde Peninsula extends into the Atlantic Ocean on its western coast.

Dakar is the capital and largest city of Senegal. It serves as the economic, cultural, and administrative center of the country.
